"REWIRING" THE BRAIN

to help solve learning problems

A mom's quest

How I helped my son overcome a diagnosed reading disability:

In December 2005, when my older son was in the fifth grade, he was diagnosed with a "reading disability" and "disorder of written expression".  I began researching remediation programs, looking for one that would make significant improvements in his reading, spelling, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.  I didn't want to begin years of tutoring or remediation only to help him struggle less; I wanted a solution that would actually correct the problem.  Correspondence with educational therapists from Los Angeles to Boston eventually led me to discover a program called “PACE” which stands for Processing and Cognitive Enhancement.

The combination of PACE and Master the Code (the reading and spelling program designed to build upon PACE) sounded like exactly what I had been searching for.  I liked the added assurance of PACE’s seventeen years of proven success with thousands of students across the country.

I learned that there were no PACE providers in Southwest Louisiana.  Since I was determined to find a way to help my son, I chose to become a Certified PACE Trainer myself.  I completed the training seminar in April 2006 at the corporate headquarters in Colorado.

During the next six months, I completed PACE cognitive training with both of my sons plus another student, and they absolutely achieved the gains that I had hoped for.  I am grateful for the PACE program, which has made a tremendous impact on my family and has also allowed me to facilitate positive change in the lives of many others.

PACE is the leading cognitive training program in the USA.  It was developed primarily by Dr. Ken Gibson, a pediatric optometrist.  He was assisted by his brother, Dr. Keith Gibson, a clinical psychologist, in conjunction with a panel of educational specialists.   The PACE training program is based on the latest scientific brain research.

There is definite opportunity for growth at Learning Advantage.  I welcome resumes from qualified persons interested in becoming certified in the PACE and Master the Code training programs.

You must be willing to work evenings and be able to make
a long-term commitment.

Qualifications:

A cognitive trainer must possess a particular combination of personality and skills in order to provide the highest level of results for their students.  The interview process will include an initial conversation about your goals, work experience, and experience with children.  The next step will be cognitive screening to assess your skills.  I look forward to discussing employment possibilities with any responsible adult who is not seeking full-time employment, and who can be flexible in order to accommodate client's scheduling needs.
