"REWIRING" THE BRAIN

to help solve learning problems

Cognitive Skills Defined

The skills we target and strengthen at Learning Advantage are those that are most easily modified with appropriate cognitive training:

Auditory Processing - the ability to blend, segment, and analyze sounds

Visual Processing -      the ability to create and manipulate pictures in one's mind

Processing Speed -      the ease and speed at which one handles information

Memory Skills -           the ability to retrieve and retain information

Logic & Reasoning -     the ability to reason, prioritize, and plan

Word Attack Skills -    the ability to read unfamiliar words

Attention -                    the ability to attend and stay on-task

We work to strengthen these three types of attention:

Selective Attention:
training the student to stay on-task even when distractions are present

Sustained Attention:
training the student to stay on-task for longer periods of time

Divided Attention:
training the student to effectively handle two or more tasks at one time
